Prostitution - A business transaction
Whilst watching secret diary of a call girl on Thursday, i decided I'd have a little blogging on prostitution. With programmes such as this, and the fantastic film pretty woman, it gives the impression that being a prostitute is a glamorous way of earning a living, big shopping sprees, gorgeous clients and having fun, although the reality is some what different. Does anyone remember the TV show band of gold?? If you do you will remember that particular show showed a more dangerous and violent side of prostitution.
Whilst doing some fact finding on the subject i came across an article written in the Guardian in Feb 2008. I did not actually know that prostitution itself was legal, its everything else surrounding it that isn't. What i don't understand is why there are many opinions most of which negative about prostitutes, especially women, yet no one seems to have anything to say on the people who pay for sex. The way i look at it is a simple business transaction between two consenting adults, maybe the "customers" don't have time to form what many would call "normal" relationships, so the best way for them to have safe sex is to pay for it. Surely it's got to be a better option than various one night stands after a few too many?

Hi Jen! I thought your post raised some interesting issues..the fact that prostitution is legal makes me think how would it be enforced if it wasn't? And that some marriages may be classed as prostitution if it was illegal to exchange sex for money?!.....Also the contrast between prostitution seen on Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Band of Gold. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle? I think this site is interesting and worth a look.... http://punternet.com/index1.html
